WA Auditor: $3.2 Billion projects blowout

Today the WA Auditor General has reported on major capital projects in WA and uncovered a $3.2 billion cost blow-out.

The report also states (page 25):

"Seven projects have an expected completion date of 24 or more months later than originally planned:

  • Midland Health Campus (62 months)
  • Busselton Health Campus (38 months)
  • Fiona Stanley Hospital (36 months)
  • Perth Arena (31 months)
  • Central Law Courts Refurbishment (25 months)
  • Department of Agriculture Headquarters (24 months)
  • Karratha Health Campus (24 months)."

The report doesn't yet take into account the Elizabeth Quay and Stadium projects which are only just begining, but the risk that these will be much more costly, and take longer, seems real.

Do you think these are the right priorities?
