Oppose discrimination in our public hospital

My mother was a migrant to Australia. She knows about discrimination and has faced many financial, personal and health challenges. 

She instilled in me family values including that there are few more important decisions in life than whether or not to raise a child. Also that discrimination is something to stand against.

Because Premier Barnett has privatised the management of our new Midland hospital to a church-based organisation, terminations and contraception services will not be provided on site. Some patients will have the stigma of having to use a separate clinic site in Midland away from the hospital while others will have to commute around 30 km to a full-service public hospital.  

This is not just an inconvenience to those of us who live in the outer-suburbs.  In the event of an emergency there will be risks as patients may need to be transferred from a clinic to a hospital.

The new hospital won't open until later this year so there's still time to change this decision.

I respect the right of individuals to hold dearly their own personal beliefs. I am proudly Christian. But I don’t think it fair for personal beliefs to be imposed on others, and certainly not through our hospitals.

I urge you to sign my petition calling on Premier Barnett to provide, without discrimination, full public hospital services in Midland.
