Led by UnionsWA and public sector unions, the Save Our Services campaign has today joined with the Women’s Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services (WA) to release a new election advertisement highlighting cuts to important prevention services. This is the first time in Australia that domestic violence has featured in an election television advertisement. 

Presenting at hearings in Perth for the People’s Inquiry into Privatisation, UnionsWA has highlighted the risk to our economy, jobs and household costs of living resulting from further privatisation, such as Western Power.

In the first two weeks of August, ambulances at most Perth public hospitals ramped for almost 2900 hours, more than twice rate at the same time in 2015.

Back in 2014, it emerged that Serco, the private company who was appointed the management contract for Fiona Stanley Hospital was paying for over 200 workers to attend work in a hospital with no patients.

The Perth Children's Hospital is a necessary addition to the medical services required by a still-growing West Australian population.

But it seems to be beset by problems with construction, including asbestos in the ceiling tiles and lead in the water pipes.

When this next story broke in August, 2016, it seemed that enough was enough. 

The Perth Children's Hospital could have its own website listing the many issues, problems and just plain disasters that have occurred over the history of its construction - and it hasn't even opened yet.

The news that test samples of installed roof panels in the beleaguered Perth Children's Hospital have come back positive for asbestos raises many issues. Before everything else, the health of workers is paramount. We can only imagine their anxiety living with the fear of possibly contracting an asbestos-related disease in the future. According to Shadow Health Minister, Roger Cook, the PCH is effectively a contaminated site.

But there are other concerns.
